Why Plain Packaging?
In Canada, tobacco use is responsible for six times more deaths than murders, alcohol, car accidents, and suicides combined.

The tobacco industry is promoting product use through their packaging!
» Packaging is a critical marketing tool:
“Consumers have become increasingly interested in packaging improvements, and these can be a strong source of competitive advantage."
Jimmi Rembiszewski, Marketing Director, British American Tobacco
» Young people will benefit from plain packaging:
In March 1995, Health Canada released its study on plain packaging
According to teenage respondents, plain packaging would bother them a lot (24%); result in fewer teenagers starting to smoke (49%); result in teenagers smoking less (36%); and result in more teenagers quitting (38%).
Rep’s from British American Tobacco are strongly opposed to the plain packaging of their products they say:
“If it became necessary,
we would take every action possible to protect our brands”
But extinguish says:
“If it became necessary,
we would take every action possible to protect our LIVES!”
